Give Kids a Smile Day 2012

Give Kids a Smile Day 2012

On Friday, February 3rd and Saturday February 4th, the Community Health Center Inc. held its Give Kids a Smile Day Event at our CHC dental sites. We are still tallying up the number of treatments and total number of kids seen, but as of now, over 150 kids were seen on Friday and Saturday and the total number is still growing! Waiting rooms were decorated with balloons and kids received goodie bags full of fun dental supplies.  Some of the…

“More than Just a Day”

“More than Just a Day”

As we sat down to write this blog about dental care and Give Kids a Smile Day, we reminisced about our dreaded childhood trips to the dentist. The bright lights, the sharp tools, and the flavored fluoride that never seemed to taste quite like it was advertised, are only some of our unfavorable memories. And who doesn’t recall the small talk the dentist makes while you wonder why they couldn’t seem to understand that one cannot speak with a mouth…

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

The following is a blog post by Diana Desmornes, an AmeriCorps Member working out of our Fairfield County Offices. One day, I was sitting outside browsing job postings online when a woman named  Suzzanne stopped me…

Washington Village Holiday Party in Norwalk!!

A guest post from Fairfield County AmeriCorps member Diana Desmornes: Saturday December 3rd, 2011, The Day Street Community Health Center hosted a holiday party for kids of Washington Village, a housing complex located directly across the street from the health center. We were excited to have 32 kids and their parents attend the party!  During the two hours, we provided a nutrition workshop, healthy snacks, interactive games, and face painting.  Dr. Brandon, a chiropractor/Yoga instructor, spoke about the benefits of…

Know your status!

Know your status!

I must say that last week was quite an eye-opening experience for myself and the other AmeriCorps members. You see, a few months ago we introduced ourselves to Oasis, Community Health Center’s HIV/AIDS clinic. They received us so warmly and we immediately knew that we wanted to become more involved with them. We quickly said ‘yes’ when Kasey Harding, director of HIV services at Oasis, asked us if we would be interested in helping out with their annual World AIDS Day affair that…
