Dr. Jha talks about his research into health care systems that are improving quality while containing costs in this country, and the potential for the Affordable Care Act to help achieve these goals.
This week, Mark and Margaret speak with former USDA Secretary Dan Glickman, now a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Mr. Glickman co-chairs the Nutrition and Physical Activity Initiative and discusses the Center’s campaign to promote better use of the Farm Bill resources which subsidize farmers as well as those receiving food assistance to more positively impact health costs by targeting drivers of obesity.

Dr. Freeman discusses his pioneering work in the patient navigation movement, which seeks to reduce health disparities by using specially trained patient navigators to assist the underserved population in removing barriers to care.

Mr. Miller discusses the APCD Council’s focus on improving the development and deployment of state-run claims databases which provide health information that can be used to improve access to quality healthcare while reducing costs.
