Event Planned to Provide Access to Health Services for Stamford’s Immigrant Population

Franklin Street Community Health Center and Neighbor’s Link to Co-Host “Health Day”

STAMFORD, CT (March 12, 2013): On March 25th, 2013 from 9am until 4 p.m. the Franklin Street Community Health Center and Neighbors Link Stamford will co-host the second annual “Health Day,” an event that provides Stamford’s immigrant population with much needed medical and dental services.

The day-long event will be held at Neighbors Link Stamford, 75 Selleck Street, Stamford, CT.  CHC’s Mobile Dental unit will be on site for the duration of the day with three dental chairs that will allow for dozens of children and adults to have comprehensive cleanings and sealant application as necessary.  CHC will also offer glucose testing, blood pressure screenings, and hand hygiene demonstrations.  There will be literature available with information on STD’s, nutrition, diabetes, hypertension, and access to health care services.  CHC medical staff will be present to answer any questions participants might have.  A CHC Access to Care Coordinator will be on hand to help qualified people apply for state medical insurance.

Franklin Street CHC and Neighbors Link Stamford have been collaborating over the course of the past two years to provide health care and wellness education in a bilingual setting through a monthly workshop series.  These workshops have provided information on diabetes, STD’s, nutrition, birth control, high blood pressure, and other relevant health topics to new immigrants in the Stamford area, who otherwise would not have access to such services.  These workshops have highlighted the need to provide medical and dental services to the immigrant population and were the catalyst behind creating “Health Day,” which saw great success in its first year.

CHC and Neighbors Link participation in this event represents true inter-agency collaboration with the goal of improving the health and wellness of Stamford’s recently immigrated residents, which is directly aligned with the mission of both organizations.

Since 1972, Community Health Center, Inc. has been one of Connecticut’s leading health care providers for special populations, committed to providing access to comprehensive primary care services in medicine, dentistry and behavioral health, and focused on improving their patient’s health outcomes while building healthier communities.

Neighbors Link Stamford is non-profit organization, established in 2011, that provides a comprehensive resource center for recent immigrants in the Stamford, Connecticut area. The mission of Neighbors Link Stamford is to strengthen the whole community by actively enhancing the healthy integration of immigrants.
