Below you will find an email that was sent out to all CHC staff this morning. We hope you will also join us in spreading the word about this incredibly important movement to family and friends.
National Wear Red Day® is February 1st!
Ten years ago, the American Heart Association (AHA) decided that enough was enough. Heart disease was claiming the lives of half a million American women per year, making it the single deadliest killer of women in our country. The AHA – in conjunction with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute – declared the 1st of February, 2003, as the first-ever National Wear Red Day®, created to help raise awareness about the causes and dangers of heart disease. This coming Friday, February 1st, 2013, marks the 10th anniversary of this empowering and vitally important event, and we’d like to invite you to join us at CHC in observing it.
The actual effort on National Wear Red Day is easy: wear the color red to show you have joined the fight against heart disease. However, wearing red for a day is just the beginning, as there is much work to be done in battling heart disease and making our population healthier. It’s why, in 2004, the AHA introduced Go Red for Women, an initiative that implores women to take this battle into their own hands. Go Red for Women is an engaging, social movement, one that provides women with the necessary resources to not only improve their personal health and habits, but to help others do the same thing.
Join us in the fight against heart disease by wearing red this Friday, and please continue to spread the word to family, friends, and all other members of the CHC community.
If you have any good pictures or stories of your site wearing red, please let someone on the Communications team know.
