Preparing for Stand Down 2012

Tomorrow, over 50 staff from CHC will participate in the 17th annual Stand Down at the Connecticut Veterans Home in Rocky Hill.  This event provides free services, assistance and information to Connecticut Veterans.

The past few days have been a flutter with people preparing for the event, and folks from CHC will be arriving early in the morning to make sure everything is all set up.

A major part of CHCs contribution to Stand Down is our dental services.  Residents from UConn will provide oral screening.  Veterans will then see hygienists and dentists depending on their needs.

Other veterans may need the help of our behavioral health team, led by Dr. Manohar Velandy, one of CHC’s staunches advocates for veterans’ health.   There will be a nurse from CHC available to help veterans struggling with substance abuse and our Wherever You Are team, which provides health care for the homeless, will also be on hand to provide assistance.

Assisting with all of this will be some of the next generation’s health care providers, including the new AmeriCorps members and members of the Nurse Practitioner Residency program.

For everyone, it will be an important experience in making a difference in the lives of those around us.
